Public Art
Let’s paint the town together!
The Amesbury Cultural Council periodically partners with the City of Amesbury to enhance and enliven our public spaces with art.

Past Projects
Artsville Artist Shanties
Summer 2022
A pop-up artists’ + makers’ market on the green next to the Library! Five weeks of arts, crafts, live music, and shopping in a temporary village of pastel shanties, on loan from the Firehouse Center for the Arts.
Chalk the Walk
Every October
During Chalk the Walk, professional artists create themed chalk murals in the Al Capp Amphitheater. Members of the community have the opportunity to watch the artists at work and also create chalk drawings of their own.
This free event recurs every October, usually the weekend before Indigenous Peoples’ Day (second weekend of the month).
Walk This Way
Summer 2021
With help from a Mass. DOT grant, nine crosswalks in downtown Amesbury were painted by local artists selected by the ACC.
It’s Electric!
Summer 2020
In summer 2020, the Amesbury Cultural Council launched a public art initiative to paint the necessary — but not very attractive — electrical boxes around town. The plain-Jane dropbox outside City Hall? That could stand a creative coat of paint as well! We selected 10 artists to paint the utility boxes responding to the theme "The Art of Community."
